Champagne corks were popped in Duns at the start of May 1989 as the town’s rugby heroes lifted the coveted Murrayfield Cup for the third time in four years.
Hundreds of fans had travelled to Meggatland for the victory against Lasswade.
‘The Berwickshire’ reported: “Hero of the day was stand-off Stuart Barton who scored all the points for Duns with a penalty and an excellent drop-goal.
“But is was a team effort that saw Duns through. It is team spirit which seems to ouse from Duns and play a major part in their continuing success.”
