Ayton Castle offered a spectacle of alternative sports back in June 1990.
The picture above shows two teams enjoying a traditional chukka of polo, but there was also a chance to try a modernised version of the sport.
The ponies were out, and instead the teams were mounted on quad bikes! There was also laser clay pigeon shooting and off-road driving. The day was an attempt to promote the castle as a polo venue, and attract future sponsorship.
