A NEW artisan pizza parlour is to open in north Northumberland, and its owners are on the lookout for staff.
Élan Pizzeria, on Main Street, Seahouses, is hoping to open its doors early next month.
But despite inquiries for jobs from people as far away as America, owner Peter Reay is looking for staff closer to home.
Peter said: “The final piece to the jigsaw is staffing. Our initial recruitment campaign for part-time and full-time chefs, kitchen staff and waiters generated some interest, with applicants from as far and wide as Italy and Naples, Florida!
“Ideally, though, we had hoped to attract all the right people from a little closer to home.
“We are thrilled at the overall high standard of applicants but the number of these from the local community has been surprisingly modest. With the recession and employment opportunities at such a low we are committed to creating local jobs and are keen to fill these permanent positions from the local community if at all possible.
“Seasonal jobs are obviously more common thanks to the tourist industry but we plan year-round trade and employment. This is such an exciting time to join Élan. Our expansion in opening the pizzeria is set to continue over coming years and there will be real prospects and career development opportunities for the right people.”
The new restaurant comes on the back of Peter’s successful Élan Crêperie which trades from a vintage Citroen H van.
Peter said: “One of the key highlights of the first year of Élan Crêperie was our appearance at Alnwick Food Festival in September 2011, being selected to work with Jean Christophe Novelli, and serving the townsfolk of Alnwick. The warm welcome and positive experience overall sealed our resolve to relocate and expand our business from Durham into Northumberland.”
