The first meet after the passing of the law banning fox hunting with dogs in 2005 brought a strong show of support from the region.

More than 100 riders - including many first-timers - turned out along with more than 350 supporters on foot for the College Valley North Northumberland Hunt meet at Cuddystone. The hunt was intending to keep its 70-strong pack of hounds, which had a bloodline pedigree going back some 300 years.

“There will have to be an element of cutting back so we won’t be breeding as many hounds in the future but we will continue to exercise them,” said joint master Ian McKie.
