Berwick’s Maltings Arts Centre received a rebranding in 1990, courtesy of 17-year-old Eyemouth schoolboy Neil Young. Neil, studying for his Higher Art at Eyemouth High School, saw his design become an important part of the Maltings’ posters and programmes.
The venue had decided to invite local schools to enter a competition around the logo rather than commission one.
“I hadn’t really thought of becoming an artist until recently although I’d always scribbled,” said Neil. “Now I hope I can go to Edinburgh or Newcastle College of Art. I’d love to be a graphic designer.”
