Berwickshire boys sing Cambridge mass

Two Berwickshire schoolboys were hitting the right notes in 1989 when they won Choristerships to sing in the world-famous choir of St John’s College, Cambridge.

Alastair Taylor, then aged eight, of Allanton, and Thomas Dobney, seven, of Paxton, were both members of Berwick Parish Church Choir. The boys expressed their thanks and support to their supporters, teachers and Parish Church choirmaster John Scarfe.

Thomas had only sung with the choir for six months. Alastair said: “We had to sit an examination and we also had to be tested in maths and English. We are both very pleased.”
