Kenny Johnston of Greenlaw was looking for a bigger, more powerful motorbike in October 1988 - three years after being told that he would never walk again following a crash.
Kenny had been operated on in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for six months, having suffered a broken back, neck and ribs, a burst pancreas and punctured lungs.
He not only walked again, but was offered sponsorship for the 1989 road-racing season.
“Bikes are my life,” he said at the time. “Within a week of coming out of hospital I was back on a bike. I was not really scared at getting back on one.”
