Sixteen spring salmon were caught on the opening day of the new season on the River Tweed.
The first was landed by Englishman David Richard Clover, who hooked the 16lb springer on the Junction at Bridge Pool near Kelso, ably assisted by boatman Gavin Brown.
Once verified, the fish was safely released back into the river. David later collected the Tweedside Tackle Trophy for the first catch of the season.
According to head boatman Billy Jack, Monday’s opening day this year was reported as the best on Junction since 1976.
Magnus Klintheim landed the largest fish on the day, his catch weighing in at 19lbs.
