Having qualified in their respective classes at last years Scottish Championships held at Upper Nisbet, near Jedburgh, Andrew Mitchell of Forfar will try for his third World Reversible title while his son, also Andrew, tries for a second Conventional victory.
Both their Ford New Holland tractors and Dowdswell ploughs are already on their way via road and sea courtesy of shipping agent DFDS. Help with the shipping has come from Vaderstad UK while many other sponsors have also generously come on board.
Plenty of practice will take place prior to the match on Friday, May 14, where the competitors will plough stubble and the following day the event will be on grass.
Joining them in Sweden will be Joyce Mitchell who will act as coach to her husband and son. Also travelling is Rab Birrell who is the Scottish judge and acting World Board member, reserve judge is Banff’s John MacRobert.
Scottish Championship Ploughing Association chairman Tom Laing from Duns took time out of planning this year’s Scottish Championships at Muir of Ord on the Black Isle to join the party at Forfar for a colourful send off.
Tom, like all of the country, is hoping to welcome at least one World Champion on to the field at the Scottish Championships on October 22-23.
