After a bit of a break, chiropodist Stephen Barrett has returned to the Borders and has set up a new, dedicated practice at 70A High Street. Stephen, formerly of Borders Chiropody clinic in Berwick, left the area in 2007 to take up a senior podiatrist appointment with the Shetland Health Board.
From there he moved on promotion to the NHS in Cumbria but has now returned to live in the Borders with his wife and family to set up in private practice.
He is an associate university lecturer at New College Durham specialising in clinical practice and dermatology having a special interest in the management of the ‘high risk’ foot in diabetes and rheumatology.
He enjoys speaking publically to groups which has included in the past the Berwick branch of Diabetes UK.
I spoke to Stephen the day before the clinic’s grand opening this week and he said it was great to be back in the Borders.
“We’ve got a four year old and we wanted to be back in the safe, clean and healthy environment the Borders offers.
“I’m keen for the chiropodists to be available for all the family, offering everything from free foot health advice, to corns and problematic ingrowing toe nails.
“I’m also offering home visits , with no GP referral required for appointments. I’m keen to take customers from Kelso to Berwick.
“There’s been keen interest in the clinic so far; a number of people have been in to make bookings and we’ve had some great compliments on how it’s looking.
“I want people to know my face and feel like they can pop their head in if they need any advice or treatments.”
