During the autumn, staff from the power station will visit schools and colleges to promote the four-year training scheme. The site’s visitor centre will also be hosting information sessions for those interested in apprenticeships.

The start of the apprentice recruitment process coincides with a relaunch of the national campaign to change teenage girls’ perceptions of science and inspire them to pursue science-based careers.

Last year, EDF Energy launched #PrettyCurious, a long-term programme to encourage more teenage girls to study science, technology, engineering and maths.

The Torness station is running information sessions at its visitor centre this Saturday and on Sunday, December 4, the closure date for applications being early in January.

Applications for the apprentice programme opened this week via www.edfenergy.com/careers
