In response to Covid-19, Duns based textile company ScotlandShop, launched its virtual appointment service where customers can discuss all things tartan via video call.
Anna White, ScotlandShop managing director, said: “We have been very fortunate as everything we do can be done via video call now.
“We can talk about tartan, our customers can view swatches, find their clan, and be talked through the measurements required for the garment of their choice.
“It has worked really well. We have had to adapt to what’s going on and as well as working well it saves our customers time and effort. We obviously miss meeting people in person but this has proved to be a very efficient way of servicing our clients and providing great customer service”.
“Initially we saw a 70 per cent drop in business online, but obviously our shop was shut, however with face mask sales we returned to normal trading and we have even seen 20 per cent growth on some weeks. It’s an extremely volatile time for everyone so we are just doing what we can by remaining nimble and adapting where we can.
“Face masks have been a big hit, with some customers wanting them made in their own tartan. We’ve also been able to donate nearly £6,000 to the NHS through the sales of masks.”
Anna was recently recognised as Regional Director of the Year for South of Scotland by the Institute of Directors Scotland.
Speaking about Anna, the judges commented: “Anna has excellent business knowledge and skills and her application illustrated a strong sense of forward vision. Her previous success means she can have confidence in achieving future plans and her outward facing messaging is clear, vibrant and strong in pursuit of a compelling vision.”
Anna was one of 19 leaders who collected an award in a ceremony that acknowledged the best in the business.
Anna added: “We’re delighted to have been given this prestigious award. We are excited about the future and where we are going and it’s an honour to be recognised for our vision and hard work.
“As always, I am hugely grateful to my amazing team and of course our loyal customers. Without them none of this would be possible.”
Founded in 2002 by Anna, ScotlandShop has been based in the grounds of her family farm ever since, continuing to convert more of the buildings to accommodate their ever-growing team.
The business was founded on not only a love of fashion, fabric and Scottish culture but also a desire to contribute to the development of the local rural economy in the Scottish Borders.
It has now become a truly international organisation delivering all over the world on a daily basis and offering products and services in 6 languages.
The flagship store in Queensferry Street in Edinburgh opened its doors in 2017, and London Scottish House provides a regular venue for bi-monthly measuring appointments and pop up shop in London.
