Dublin's wit and drama in award winning play
Arkle Theatre Company will stage the late Hugh Leonard's Tony-winning play '˜Da', at Macarts, Galashiels, on March 9-10.
Set in 1960s Dublin, it centres on Charlie Tynan who returns to his childhood home after burying his father, only to find that the stubborn patriarch’s ghost is unwilling to leave the house.
Charlie, played by Paul Beeson, is plagued with visions of the old man (Charles Finnie).
As the events of Charlie’s youth and his parent’s dysfunctional marriage are unfolded, we discover the frustrating and complex relationship that existed between father and son.
Peppered with characteristic Dublin wit and several memorable one-liners, ‘Da’ explores themes of death, family, memory, and identity - it forces Charlie to come to terms with himself and to re-evaluate his relationship with his parents.
Performance starts at 7.30pm. Tickets £10/£8 from www.ticketsource.co.uk/macarts.
