Team captain and farmer Martin Dudgeon, business woman Nicky Clark, retired yacht skipper Simon Smith, retired art teacher Joan Stewart and farmer Fiona Skeen, known collectively as The Amnesiacs travelled to the BBC studios in Glasgow at the end of last year to record their round of the famous BBC 2 quiz show.
They took on a team that included former ‘Who Wants to Be A Millionaire’ Judith Keppell , winner of Brain of Britain Chris Hughes and the notoriously competitive CJ de Mooi, victor on the likes of ‘100%’ and ‘Fifteen To One’.
The Amnesiacs do have a pretty impressive quizzing record themselves. They are regulars at the quiz at The Red Lion in Millfield and it was after winning a quiz at Longridge Towers school last year that they decided to give Eggheads a shot.
Spokesperson for the team Nicky wouldn’t be drawn on how they fared against the quiz heavyweights but you can see for yourself when The Amnesiacs’ episode is broadcast on BBC 2 tonight at 6pm.
But Nicky was happy to divulge what a great time she and her fellow Amnesiacs had filming the show.
“We had an absolutely brilliant day; it was a great experience from start to finish.
“We had to be up in Glasgow ready for a 7.30am start so it was a bit of a long day but it was really interesting to be in a working TV studio and see behind the scenes; go into the green room etc.
“The process of filming the show is a lot more disjointed than it looks on TV.
“The different rounds all take a while to film as the people chosen to take on each other go into another part of the studio to film.
“Amazingly this didn’t actually hinder our concentration too much and we managed to stay quite calm throughout.”
And as for their opponents?
“We were quite disappointed that Daphne wasn’t there but Judith was really lovely.
“Chris seemed very competitive and CJ was just as we imagined- I’m saying no more!”
