During their Easter break, members took a trip up to Wester Ross, singing with the 'Gaudete' choir who joined the Singers last summer to give a performance of Cherubini's Requiem in the beautiful surroundings of Inverewe Gardens. The concert was blessed with stunning weather and well attended.

Recently, some members joined with singers from all over the north east for a course in Jesmond, Newcastle, to help train conductors of choirs from the Tyneside and Durham areas in the skills of choral direction and now some are involved in the massed choirs event taking place shortly at Kelso.

All in all, it's a busy time for the Paxton-based group who are busy preparing for their Summer Picnic concert, to be held at Whitsome Ark, in June.

This concert will feature a piece by Joseph Horovitz, best known for his music for television series such as 'Rumpole'. Originally from Tyneside, Horovitz has been professor of composition at the Royal College of Music in London for many years.

At their Berwickshire concert, the singers will be performing his Summer Sunday music, plus some Beatles arrangements and some shorter songs.

The Merse Singers are going to be joined in the concert by the flute duo comprising of Duns doctor, Simon McCann and Gillian Payne and accompanied by Jenny Warren. Rehearsals are now taking place every Monday at Paxton Village Hall at 7.15pm and more singers are welcome. For more details visit www.mersesingers.org.uk.
