The Northumberland landscape is set to star in a new music video by Radiohead drummer Philip Selway.

The video is directed by Rammatik, the winners of the Northern Film & Media’s national music filmmaking competition Sound + Vision.

Rammatik, chosen from a shortlist of five, have been awarded £4,000 commission which will enable them to collaborate with Philip on the official video for his forthcoming single ‘It Will End in Tears’.

The work will be premiered at a live showcase event featuring a performance from Philip on Saturday, September 21 during the 10th anniversary edition of the Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival.

Rammatik, who are no strangers to the film festival, are Rannvá Káradóttir and Marianna Mørkøre – filmmakers who left their native Faroe Islands to study dance and fashion in the UK.

Drawing on this training, they have since built up an award winning body of innovative and visually striking short films exploring the relationship between human movement, landscape and cinematography.

Commenting on their success the pair said: “We are extremely excited to be collaborating with Philip Selway on this project.

“When we heard the track we knew straight away that we wanted to create a piece for his music.

“The initial idea is to create a mystical and mesmerizing atmosphere, using fragmented synchronized movements and imagery in a surrealistic context.

“Having filmed in the area before, we look forward to exploring further the natural resources of Northumberland.”

Melanie Iredale, director of Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Northern Film & Media to be inviting Philip Selway to Berwick to perform his new single for the first time, and to welcome back Marianna and Rannva, who we’ve worked with previously, to Berwick to present the premiere of this new collaborative video – it promises to be an exciting audio visual experience.”
