Any green fingered theatre fans might want to take a trip to Crookham Village Hall on Saturday for a play guaranteed to put a spring in your step.

Fresh from a two-week run at Keswick’s prestigious Theatre By the Lake, actor Peter Macqueen present ‘Old Herbaceous’, the character he has brought to life from the pages of Reginald Arkell’s classic novel of the garden.

Old Herbaceous is the wittiest, most crotchety head gardener ever to plant bulbs at a British country house – think Downton Abbey with gardening tips – and Macqueen tells the story of Albert Pinnegar’s rise from orphan to legendary head gardener and finest flower show judge in the country.

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7 (call 01890 820706).
