Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival has launched its call for volunteers to support the 10th edition of its award-winning event.

It’s been a good year for the film festival already with a WOW award from North East Press for Best Community Event and a Journal Culture Award for Best Event in Northumberland. And it got even better at the start of this week with the news they will receive £143,740 of funding from the Arts Council over the next three years.

If you want to share in the success, you can sign up to volunteer for this year’s festival which will run from September 17-21.

Each year since 2005, the film festival has relied upon a number of volunteers of all ages to support it and to be ambassadors for Berwixk- which is expected to see see an influx of approximately 9,000 visitors when the event kicks off in the autumn.

“We encourage applications from people of all ages in and around Berwick,” said festival director Melanie Iredale.

“If you’re just finishing school and in the early stages of your career, this is a great opportunity to get some work experience and increase employability.

“Equally, we’ve no maximum age limit, our eldest volunteer is 79 and it can be a great way to use your skills in the Berwick community, meet new people and be part of an important event for the town.”

Volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and cover activities in all areas of the event organisation and delivery, offering a chance for everyone to take part, and in return are offered unrivalled access to the Festival.

If you are interested in volunteering for the 10th Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, and are aged 16 or over, visit the Festival website to apply: www.berwickfilm-artsfest.com. Deadline for applications is Thursday, July 31.
