Fine dining on Farnes menu

Food lovers will be able to enjoy a unique and exclusive dining experience on the Farne Islands and at Lindisfarne Castle this summer.

It comes courtesy of a unique collaboration between the National Trust and Anna Hedworth, an entrepreneurial Supperclub provider in Newcastle.

Anna, author of The Grazer food blog, runs a series of incredibly popular Supperclubs across the north east in locations that vary from wine shops, shipping containers and bowling greens.

This summer sees their arrival on both The Farne Islands and Lindisfarne Castle.

Anna said: “This is really exciting venture for me and an amazing opportunity for people to have a very unique experience.

“I am providing the food and supper club experience while the National Trust are providing these amazing venues – it’s a potent mix that will create some unforgettable evenings of entertainment and great food.”

The Farne Islands experience includes a private boat sailing over to the Farnes late in the afternoon, arriving on the white sandy beach of Inner Farne to be greeted with aperitifs and tasty treats.

The evening will include a private tour of the island; its beautiful beach, the Lighthouse and its garden, and seeing thousands of amazing birds, while gazing back at Bamburgh castle and the beautiful long white Northumbrian beaches.

At dusk you find yourself sitting down to dine, in the lighthouse gardens or the tiny chapel on the island at a beautiful long table.

Or you could find yourself driving over the causeway to supper at Lindisfarne Castle, arriving on the Lower Battery to canapés and aperitifs, looking out over the Northumberland coast.

The evening continues with a personal tour through the rooms of the castle then supper will be served on the Upper Battery; a spot that offers one of the finest views in Northumberland as the sun slowly sinks over the Cheviots.

Claire Ashby, the National Trust’s visitor experience manager for the Northumberland Coast, said: “We are delighted to be working with Anna.

“Two of our team went to one of Anna’s events in the back of a shipping container in Newcastle and had an amazing evening. We were keen to collaborate.

“Visitors don’t usually get to dine at Lindisfarne or on the Farnes so this is a really different way for people to enjoy our places and enjoy the Northumberland coast on a summer evening.”

The sharing menu will include a table long platter of seafood to start, fresh poached lobster, langoustine, homemade garlic mayonnaise, rollmop herring, devilled eggs, homemade buttermilk bread, homemade butters, samphire salad and other surprises.

This will be followed by a main course of slowly braised Northumbrian lamb, anchovy pan haggerty, salsa verde and other seasonal vegetables followed by a scattering of sea inspired tasty puddings.

There will be four events with a limited number of 20 places available at each: Saturday, July 20 and Saturday, August 31 at Lindisfarne Castle and Saturday, July 27 and Saturday, August 3 on the Farne Islands.

Prices include unique private access, history and nature talks, food introductions, welcome aperitifs, three courses of fine food, wines to match, digestifs and coffee.
