A quartet of films are to be screened at a local cinema next week.

The Maltings, Berwick will play host to four contrasting films to kick off 2016.

First up will be The Lady in the Van, which stars Maggie Smith and Dominic Cooper. The story follows Miss Shepherd (played by Smith), who has ‘temporarily’ parked in the driveway of the writer Alan Bennett (played by Cooper).

The production has been described as hilarious and heartwarming, and is based on real events.

It shows on Tuesday, January 5, at 1pm, and Thursday, January 7, at 7.30pm.

For children, Disney Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur will be screened from Tuesday, January 5 to Thursday, January 7, all at 4.30pm.

The film contemplates the idea of what would have happened if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet and giant dinosaurs never became extinct.

For those looking for a more intellectual showing, Danny Boyle’s fascinating production of Steve Jobs may be just the ticket. It attempts to delve into the mind of the genius behind tech giant Apple, with Michael Fassbender playing the leader.

The story is set backstage at three iconic product launches, ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac. It claims to be very different to previous biopics of Steve Jobs’ life.

And finally something for the whole family – Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens opened in cinemas only a few weeks ago, but is heading to The Maltings.

The story picks up three decades after the defeat of the Galactic Empire (Star Wars: Return of the Jedi) and a new threat, the First Order, arises to rule the galaxy.

It follows young scavenger Rey who meets a droid BB-8, which holds a special map with the location of Luke Skywalker.

It runs from Friday, January 8 until Thursday, January 14.

Tickets for all events start from £4.75. Visit www.maltingsberwick.co.uk or call 01289 330 999 for full details.
