JOHNNY Simpson scored a hat-trick as Eyemouth United crushed Easthouses Lily 5-1 to maintain their promotion challenge in the East of Scotland League First Division.
Ross Aitchison and Leigh Walker were also on target for the Fisherman, who are now just four points behind second-placed Heriot-Watt University. Both teams have played 16 games, while leaders Preston Athletic are beginning to stutter.
The Prestonpans men were held to a 2-2 draw away to Berwick Rangers Reserves and are now only nine points clear of Eyemouth having played three games more.
Elsewhere, Duns kept up their good form with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Ormitson. Derek Chisholm and Douglas Brydon were on target for the Dingers. Gala Fairydean were held to a 1-1 draw at resurgent Hawick Royal Albert.
Meanwhile, Coldstream are understood to be furious about the late postponement of their King Cup tie away to Peebles Rovers for the second week in a row. The match was called off at 10.30am on Saturday morning because of the same drainage problem which had affected the pitch at Whitestone Park the previous week.
