Scottish junior champion Robbie White has claimed his first victory south of the border, after packing a punch on the North Northumberland ABC show in Alnwick.

White fought his way to a great victory, defeating East Durham ABC’s Billy Sankey by a unanimous decision.

The first round was close, but rounds two and three were won by the borderer. White boxed well throughout the contest, slipping in and out of range and mixing his combinations well against an opponent who made him work hard.

The win was the icing on the cake for the youngster, who won a gold medal in the 2000 born 38kg category at the Scottish Junior Championships in Glasgow last month.

There was also success for 2001-born Bailee Noon, who won a silver medal at the championships, and Ethan Sinton (2002) who made the semi-final.

Chirnside boxers are now in extra training in the run up to the club’s home show on April 27.

Registered boxers are completing Sunday night training sessions on top of their mid week work.

Club coach Michael Black said: “A boxer should aim to be fit all season and be ready to take a bout at short notice but boxing on your home show is extra special.”
