OVER 300 competitors converged on the Foxlake Adventures Wake Park in Dunbar to complete in the fourth leg of the Scottish Cyclo-cross Series.

The biggest classes were the under 12 category and the vetrans, both of which attracted 75 entries, demonstrating the impact cycling is having in Scotland on all ages.

The event, sponsored by the TRI Centre and Ridley Bikes, was a first for Foxlake to host and was a resounding success with Simon Kirkness from the TRI Centre asking to return next year and ‘applauding the site and what Foxlake have to offer cyclocross and indeed off road triathlons in the future.

The course was specially set out to take a route via the woods and around the lake taking in Foxhill to add some additional difficulty for the competitors.

The senior men’s race was won by Rab Wordell, from Alpine Bikes Racing, followed by Robert Fuel and Neal Crompton.

Foxlake were also joined on the day by the British Junior Cable Wakeboard Champion Cain Hamilton who came to try Scotland’s first Wake Park and loved the obstacles and environment Foxlake has to offer outdoor adventure sport.

This winter Foxlake will develop its site further by extending the lake and adding a second cable to cater for demand and in addition they are working closely with Developing Mountain Bike in Scotland (DMBinS) to develop accessible trails across the site to link into the John Muir Way Coastal Route.

The first cyclo-cross competition at Foxlake has brought cyclists from across Scotland, as well as many local youngsters competing from all over Scotland to experience this developing adrenaline corner of East Lothian.

James Barbour from Foxlake said: “We were delighted to help out the cyclo-cross guys when they approached us a couple of months ago having lost their previous site for this year’s event.

“Seeing the mix of kids and adults enjoying our site at the end of our wake season gives us an opportunity to grow a winter activity and we look forward to working with the local cyclists to help our site develop trails in the future.”
