Four young Chirnside Chasers travelled to Aberdeen on Friday to take part in the under 13 age group events of the Scottish National Age Group Championships, with the hope of picking up the coveted title of Scottish Champion for 2014.

Three boys, Josh Abbott, Jamie Kinghorn and Rory Williams took part in various track events while one girl, Caitlin Black, took part in the shot put.

First up on Saturday morning was the 100m which saw Jamie Kinghorn and Josh Abbott making it through their respective heats and qualify for the B Final. Then later in the morning Jamie, Josh and Rory Williams competed in the 800m and unbelievably all three boys made it through the heats to the final.

It is quite an achievement for any club to have three participants in the one track final but for Chirnside Chasers who have only been in existence for three years it is remarkable.

The final took place later that afternoon and in a strongly run race Rory managed to take the silver medal in a time of 2m 22secs finishing just behind the winner. Josh finished fourth while Jamie finished eighth.

Finally on the track Jamie and Josh ran the 200m with Jamie making the B final being ninthoverall while Josh qualified for the A final fifth.

Josh found the final hard after the efforts of the rest of his races throughout the day.

In the field event Caitlin Black entered in the shot put having only taken it up two months ago. Caitlin threw a new PB on her second throw of 7.61 to qualify for the final three throws. She then threw even further, 7.65, to take the bronze medal.
