Whitadder youngster Chloe top of her class

YOUNG sailors from eight different clubs took part in the RYA Scotland Sailing Develope Group Junior Championships, the outstanding performance of the day coming from 12-year-old Chloe Wightman from the Whiteadder Reservoir Sailing Club.

Chloe’s prize for her achievement was a signed poster of Olympic silver medalist in the 470 sailing class, Luke Patience.

Lothian and Borders Sailing Development Group held their event at Longcraig Scout Centre in South Queensferry last weekend - 29 youngsters taking part.

The aim of the event was to encourage young sailors under 16 who have learned to sail this year to try racing for the first time.

The fun filled day proved to be a great experience for many and particularly successful for Chloe.

Over the weekend around 150 young sailors took to the water across Scotland to try racing for the first time - a great way to end the 2012 sailing season and hopefully gets everyone looking forward to the 2013 season.
