Three batsmen hit centuries for local sides in league

Centuries were the order of the day in the Northumberland Cricket League at the weekend with three local batsmen hitting tons.

Lee Mark for Berwick 1sts, Kevin Thompson for Warenford and Keith Bickerton for Tillside 2nds all found themselves in three figures as their teams picked up wins.

Tillside went down to a 40 run defeat at the hands of Ashington Rugby.

Ashington batted first and posted 231-6 with Adam Peacock (86) and Cory Milburn (61 not out) scoring the bulk of the runs.

Stuart Wright with 2-31 was Tillside’s most successful bowler.

In reply the Etal side saw Liam Hindmarsh make 60, with Jake Birkett on 61 and Andrew Reed on 30, but they came up short at 191 with the wickets spread amongst the visiting bowlers.

Berwick eased to an eight wicket win in the Premier League over Bomarsund.

The home side hit 204 all out, with Stephen Thain top-scoring on 39. Steven Emery took 4-37 and Sean Wales 3-69.

Lee Mark then hit a splendid 118, which included 16 fours and five sixes, as Berwick made 205-2.

Berwick 2nds had a narrower 17-run victory over Cramlington in Division 1.

Berwick, with Richard Farish topping the charts on 25, posted 128, Ben Cuthbertson taking 5-31 for the visitors.

In reply Bhavesh Soni claimed 4-19 as Cramlington were all out for 111 with Lee Wilkinson their top bat on 22.

Warenford continued their good run in Division 2 with a 50-run win over Clara Vale.

And again their was a batsman hitting a century, with Kevin Thompson on 105 not out, and Brian Thompson smashing 71 as Waren set a target of 229-4.

Adeel Waheed then hit 97 as Clara vale tried to run it down, but 6-62 by Graham Rogerson saw the visitors all out on 179.

In Division 3 Tillside 2nds beat Hebburn by 125 runs.

Keith Bickerton was in fine form with the bat and hit 128, which included 20 fours and one six, with Jamie Pick on 45, as the Etal side set 278-7.

Ali Raza hit 49 for Hebburn in replybut they were all out for 153 with Dave Robertson taking 3-27.

Wooler claimed a five wicket win over Warkworth.

Adam Jobson hit 47 as warkworth posted 121-9, with Michael McLean taking a mean 4-8.

Mclean then top scored on 43 with Les Poertous on 39 as the Glendale side hit 122-5 in reply.
