Slater leads way in Wheelers’ time trial

A fantastic turnout of 25 riders were blessed with a fine Spring evening for the Wheelers second club time-trial of the year.

With the wind blowing from the West, the hard leg was on the way out, but once round the turn many of the riders reached 30mph+. The top three positions were separated by just 11 seconds.

First place went to Doug Slater in 24.03, close on his wheels was Steve Rowley in 24.07 and Andrew Scorey third in 24.14. First lady was Joyce Mark in 27.19 followed by Gill Caine with a 29.16 and Alison Kerr third in 29.57. With this kind of turnout it looks like it could be a bumper season for both membership and racing.

Next week’s race is another 10-miler with riders meeting at Hutton crossroads at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
