Seconds also find top form at Livingston

Livingstion 2nd XV15

Duns 2nd XV40

DUNS seconds managed to secure a fixture at the 11th hour after yet another league game postponement.

The second string travelled through to West Lothian with a good squad although there were many of the regular back line missing. Livingston were unbeaten this season but so were the young Dingers so something would have to give. The home side had a massive pack and what looked like a lively back line. A tough encounter was on the cards and both sides did not disappoint with what proved to be a very hard, physical battle and also an open game.

Duns, playing into the stiff wind, started brightly with good possession and had chances for early points. They had to wait until the tenth minute when Chris Williamson made a bullocking run from his own half, fending off the Livi defence to score by the posts. This was converted by Craig Renton.

Five minutes later Livingston scored a converted try from a scrum to level the scores. Duns responded with a well taken try, with Stevie Crawford touching down and Renton adding the conversion. Livingson hit back with a penalty following Duns being penalised at a ruck. Both sides then had chances to score before the interval but failed to do so. Half time came with Duns on top- 14-10 and what had been a fantastic exhibition of end to end rugby with both teams contributing to the cause.

The second half started at a much lower tempo, although Duns had the wind at their backs. Martin Aitchison, having his first outing in nearly three years, crashed over in the corner taking three defenders with him. Livingston hit back with a further try from their centre which went unconverted.

There then followed an edgy period to the game when Duns seemed to lose their way being before putting the game to bed with three tries in the final stages. Chris Williamson added his second before man of the match Stevie Crawford added a brace to complete his hat-trick. Crawford also addded two conversions.

A tremendous performance from the seconds against very good opposition. This was a team performance with many great contributions made on the park by both the forwards and the back line.
