A look at the results from the local golf clubs.

Goswick

There was plenty of activity on the Links last weekend with members and a goodly raft of visitors enjoying the balmy weather. Dave Wilkinson’s new regime of pumping iron and power walking is paying off with results on the golf course.

Dave romped home with 42 Stableford points to win the first of the Lynch Staunton competitions on Saturday. In second place was Gary Walsh with 39 points beating James Patterson on count back who also came in with 39 points. Jim Swan claimed fourth spot with 38 points.

There was a big field for the April Medal played on Sunday. Division 1 winner was Dave Chidley 73-6-67, second Cameron Mitchell 76-7-69. Three players were separated by the better back nine rule. Ivan Martin 72-1-71, James Patterson 74-3-71 and Dave Brigham 77-6-71. Division 2: 1st. Andy Richardson 82-15-67, 2nd Jim Harkness 84-15-69 and 3rd G R Borthwick 89-14-75.

This coming Saturday (11th) is Ladies Opening Day and on Sunday (12th) club captain Peter Oliver will lead his team into battle against Peter Gautry’s vice captains select.

Magdalene Fields

On Saturday a large field took part in the first Stableford competition of the season.

With 40 points and a better back nine Sean Jackson just edged out John Ellis also with 40,third place went to Ewan Fyvie on 38.

The Ladies EGWA Medal was also played on Saturday, Margaret McMurchie leading the way with 93-18-75, second went to Sheila Steele 94-18-76.

Sunday saw David Sharp take the honours in a Medal Sweep with a 80-13-67, second was Richard Farish 81-12-69 (BB9) with Gordon Dickson taking third 93-24-69. Best gross score went to the in form Martin Neil with a 75.

The qualifying round for the International Pairs takes place this weekend.

Seahouses

The British Heart Foundation Trophy played on Sunday was won by Hazel Hardacre 89-18-71, second Jan Allan, 98-25-73 and third Christine English, 98-24-74. Best gross was by Anne Locke on 84.
