Berwickshire League

Results from the second round of matches in the Berwickshire Bowling Association League last week were:

Ayton 10, Greenlaw 0; Berwick 8, Eyemouth 2; Chirnside 4, Gordon 6; Coldstream 6, Duns 4; Spittal 1, Tweedmouth 9.

Games to be played (Thursday, May 15) are:

Coldstream v Ayton; Duns v Chirnside; Eyemouth v Tweedmouth; Gordon v Berwick; Greenlaw v Spittal.

Top ten draw

The draw has been made for first round matches in the Borders Top Ten competition. Games will be played on dates to be arranged by the clubs.

The draw is:

Spittal v Coldstream; Chirnside v Berwick; Tweedmouth v Duns Park; Eyemouth v Ayton; Waverley v Abbotsford; Peebles.v Stow; St Ronans v Gala; Earlston v Ancrum; Lauder v Kelso; Jedburgh v Gordon; Langholm New v Buccleuch; Wilton v Selkirk; Langholm Old v Hawick.

The final will be played on Saturday, July 19 at Spittal.

Hamilton Trophy

The Hamilton Trophy series kicked off at the weekend, when unfortunately, there was a defeat for The Borders away to Midlothian, the final score being 144-90.

Rink scores were (Borders names first):

S.White 15, K.MCDougall 21; K.Johnstone 12, C.McFarlane 12: G.Forsyth 10, C.Hodge 36; I.Crawford 19, C.Walker 18; R.Crawford 15, R.Blair 26; A.White 19, D.McGlyn 31.

This weekend Borders face Fife at Berwick on Saturday (May 17) starting at 2pm.

The Borders U25s lost narrowly 122-121 against Fife on Saturday.

This weekend the Borders U25s take on Midlothian at Loanend Miners’ Welfare, starting at 2pm.

Ayton Open Pairs

Ayton and District Bowling Club held their first open competition of the season with 24 pairs competing for the Two Bowl Open Pairs.

The final was an all Chirnside affair with eventual winners John Jackson and Derek Gilchrist defeating Roy Douglas and Gavin Douglas in an entertaining game.

Losing semi-finalists were Terry Frater and Tommy Lothian (Eyemouth) and Andrew Calder and Drew Scott (Eyemouth)

Roxburgh Bowl

Spittal BC held their first Roxburgh Rosebowl open pairs of the season on Sunday.

The winners were Colin Renton and Fraser Campbell who defeated David Purdon and Stuart Bebbington in the final.

Semi-finalists were Peter Laidlaw and Eddie Skelly, and Philip Tait and Peter Dixon.
