Robertson leads the way in Wheelers’ 15-miler

This week’s club time trial was another 15 miler, as the hilly champs had to be postponed, due to roadworks on the Duns to Grantshouse course.

A total of 12 riders were greeted by strong easterly winds, which pointed to a fast leg to the turn and a very hard ride back. And so it panned out, as most found themselves at the turn in record time, only to then find an unrelenting barrier all the way back!

Despite the conditions, Doug Robertson managed to post almost the same time as his ride last week to take first place in 36.34, with Doug Slater in second on 38.19 and Neil Wilson close behind in third with a 38.34.

Joyce Mark, returning from her European champs success, was the fastest lady in a very creditable 40.09 for an excellent fourth place overall.

Andrew Scorey and Dom Blythe were off in search of road racing points down at criteriums near Middlesborough on the same evening.

Despite Dom pushing the pack hard all the way in his 4th cat race he just missed out on a top 10 placing in the sprint for the line.

Andrew continued his return to form with a well-earned win in the 2/3/4 category race, breaking away in a small group early on and then taking the sprint for the line. He followed that result up with another good placing, 8th, in his second race of the night.
