Plans to resurrect Athletic Club Eyemouth

After almost 15 years, Athletics Club Eyemouth (ACE) is about to make a comeback.

Local running enthusiasts David Dempster, Mark Hogarth, Jo Highet and Ceri Leather are looking to re-form the club.

“We have a lot of local sporting talent” says David, “and with local inspiration such as Guy Learmonth making a name for themselves in the sporting world, we want to encourage others with the same passion”.

The current running group was established in 2010, and gathers on a Monday and Wednesday, is already enjoyed by many, but to take it forward requires affiliation with Scottish Athletics.

Young, old, amateur or professional, all abilities will be welcomed and encouraged. The vision of the club is to start as an adult club until foundations are established to accommodate, encourage and coach a junior division.

David, who has worked in the sports industry for many years, has plenty of experience when it comes to running, competing, and organising local events, such as The Wee Toughie 10k over St Abbs Head and the Eyemouth Twilight 5k. David wants to put this experience to good use but he can’t do this on his own.

So, along with a group of like-minded locals, a meeting has been organised to get the club up and running.

If you would like to know more, offer some input, volunteer, or would like to get involved with the committee, there will be a meeting on Friday 24th April at 7pm at Eyemouth Leisure Centre – All are welcome
