Berwick athlete Nathan Cox started 2015 with a bang by winning the Morrisons Great Winter 5k Run at Holyrood in Edinburgh.

The 17-year-old, who represents Morpeth Harriers, came home first in a field of 2,500 runners.

In testing weather conditions he ran a fine tactical race sitting just behind the leaders until the last half kilometre when he kicked and eased past then pulled clear winning by a ten-second margin in a time of 16mins 32sec.

It was a great win in a field that included some of the top club runners from all over the UK.

The victory sets up Cox for his next race on Saturday – a 800m indoor race at Glasgow’s Emirates Stadium.
