Duns hocker player Moira Anderson was at the Army Hockey Centre in Aldershot last week with the Scottish Hockey Masters over 55’s team to play Australia.
These games were part of the Intergenerational Hockey Tournament which took place from May 23-29 May.
The Australian side were using these games as warm up matches before the World Championships which are to be held in Rotterdam this month.
Scotland played two games against Australia and despite losing 6-1 and 5-2 the scores didn’t reflect the games in any way.
Scotland Coach/Manager, Elaine Wotherspoon, was pleased with the teams performance as this was the first time that Scotland had played together as a team as there were many positives to take away from the games.
The Scottish Squad agreed that it was a fantastic experience playing against such a well established Australian team.
This is the first time the Scots over 55’s have played together and there is lots to build on as the team began to perform better as the games progressed.
Fitness levels will need to improve before they take part in the Home Nations Tournament held in Swansea at the end of June.
Representing the Borders in The Scottish Masters over 45’s team are - Carolyn Allison, from Duns, Jackie Wilson,m fro0m Hawick and Janet Jack from Melrose.
They travelled to Rotterdam on Wednesday to take part in the Hockey Masters World Championships so good luck to them.
