Ayton Bowling Club have created history by winning the Berwickshire Bowling Association League title for the first time ever.
Since its inception back in 1985, the Ayton club has gone close to lifting the title but never actually achieved it until this season.
President Ted Bradshaw accepted the league trophy last week and the team has enjoyed celebrating the occasion.
And there was double cause for celebrations as Stuart Bebbington won the Berwickshire Gents’ Singles title at the Association Finals Day on Sunday at Tweedmouth Bowling Club. In an excellent final he defeated Coldstream’s Paul Cartlidge.
The Pairs title was won by the Gordon duo Kevin Donaldson and Craig Martin who defeated Tweedmouth’s Kevin Scott and David Bolton in the final.
Triples winners were Drew Scott, Jimmy Fettes and Ryan Mark from Eyemouth Bowling Club. In the final they defeated Joe Condy, Brian Robertson and Graeme Forsyth from Chirnside Bowling Club.
In the Fours final it was Gordon who once again emerged the victors. Their four of Dave Johnston, Bob Donaldson, Arthur Cossar and Neil Kellet defeated the Tweedmouth rink of David Wakenshaw, Eddie Smith, Malcolm Holloway and Fraser Campbell.
Tweedmouth had better luck in the Senior Fours. Their rink of Brian Holloway, Brian Lennon, Eddie Skelly and Peter Laidlaw were the winners, defeating the Eyemouth rink of George Whittlie, John Connolly, George Virtue and John Crowe.
The Junior Singles title went to Chirnside’s Darren Riddell who defeated Colddstream’s Daniel Clark in a great final.
Results from last week’s final league matches were as follows: Berwick 2 Ayton 6, Coldstream 6 Eyemouth 2, Gordon 4 Chirnside 4, Spittal 8 Greenlaw 0, Tweedmouth 5 Duns Park 3.
