Callum Smith from Greenlaw has been selected to represent Scotland at the U15 home nations badminton event.

This year’s event will be hosted hosted this year by Scotland and will be played at The National Badminton Academy in Glasgow on April 29.

Callum (14) and his doubles partner Kenneth Cheung have trained hard to try and make this team playing an age group up.

Winning the East of Scotland U15, and Glasgow Championships and being runners-up at the West of Scotland and Glasgow School of sport they achieved enough ranking points to be selected.

The team event starts on the Friday with Scotland taking on Wales, Ireland and the strongest opposition being the English. There are expected to be some very close games with Scotland fighting to retain the title on home turf. The individual event follows on the Saturday with Callum playing singles, doubles and mixed with partner Alice Campbell who is also U14. A tense Sunday will see the individual finals being played.

Callum has had some more good news and has recently joined the Althlete Support Program joining Robbie Patterson who has just won an U17 national title along with other top class Borders althletes in various sports. The program provides strengthening and conditioning, physiotherapy, psychological and nutritional support. All to help Callum reach his dream of becoming a senior national player.

Callum is grateful to sponsors, Club Sport Berwickshire, Ashaway, Sandy McLean and Co and R.L. Smiths.
