Eugene wins his first open title

Duns badminton players took part in the East Lothian U14 Championships at Tranent recently.

Eugene Stokes from Duns, who currently trains with Badminton Scotland, was the main victor winning his first Scottish Open Title. In the final he came up against 3/4 seed James Guckian, to take the title after winning 21-17, 21-12. He also made it to the semi-final of the doubles with Andrew Hogg of Hutton.

Andrew also made it to the quarter-finals of the singles.

Keira Waddell, seeded number 1, narrowly missed out on the girls title after being defeated by the number 2 seed Naomi Branford. Keira and Naomi teamed up for the doubles, an old partnership reunited after a season apart, they took the title 15-11, 15-9.

Ninian Grant from Gordon made it to the consolation singles where he was knocked out in the second round. He teamed up with Paul Goldie from Hawick for the doubles, losing out in the quarter-finals of the consolation event.
