WORKINGTON COMETS 59 BERWICK BANDITS 34: Berwick slumped to a 25 point defeat at Workington on Monday when the teams met up for the second time in 48 hours.

The Comets followed up their last gasp win at Shielfield on Saturday with a convincing victory which was marred by shoulder injuries sustained by two riders in the opening heat.

Berwick guest Nick Morris and former Bandit Tero Aarnio were injured and both were taken from the track by ambulance and withdrawn from the meeting.

Kozza Smith was the only Berwick rider who showed any consistency winning three of his races, one as a double-pointed tactical ride.

Robin Aspegren and Matty Wethers were the only other race winners on the night as the home riders dominated proceedings from start to finish.

Richard Lawson, Rene Bach and Rusty Harrison were all in the points for the home side, as expected, but it was reserve AshleyMorris who emerged as the unexpected hero for the Cumbrians, winning four of his six starts to top score on 15+1.

Three 5-1s and a 4-2 in the firstfour races saw Workington establish a commanding 22-8 lead and from that moment on the Banditswere on the back foot. Smith tried to keep the visitors in the meeting but it was always going to be a losing battle

The Comets were always the stronger looking side and they went on to achieve the weekend double by chalking up another four 5-1s in the remaining races.
