Cycling is becoming increasingly important for the Scottish Borders’ economy, and figures released by Peebles-based event company Hillside Outside Ltd show their events adding nearly £1.5million to the area’s economy in 2015.

The relatively newly-established business achieved the success through their two major annual cycling events - TweedLove Bike Festival and Tesco Bank Tour O’ The Borders.

TweedLove, now the biggest bike festival in the UK, contributed  £927,000 to the Scottish Borders economy, whilst the Tesco Bank Tour O The Borders sportive was worth £496,000 to local businesses. Between them the two events brought over 17,000 visitors to the area.

Scottish Borders Councillor Stuart Bell, said: “The impressive growth of Tour O’ The Borders and Tweedlove make a great contribution to positioning the Borders as an international destination of choice for all types of cycling.”
