Berwick rowers compete at South Hylton

South Hylton on the River Wear was the first venue for the Northern Region’s Long Distance Sculling Series.

Despite the rain, conditions were good for the 75 crews competing in various boat categories, racing a distance of approximately 5km against the clock.

Berwick’s team comprised of four double sculls and three single sculls.

Chris Eke and Robin Morrison in Mas C double were first Berwick double to finish in 18:00.3, Alison Inglis and Hilary Cairns Mas C double 18:28.8, Alan Robertson and Gordon Benton in Mas G double 18:50.2, Harry Black and Ian Smith in Mas F double 19:21.9.

Andrew Cairns was the first of the single sculls to complete the course in Junior 16 single in 19:23.4, Elvira Drummond in Womens IM2 single 20:22.7 and Lauren Adams in Womens IM3 single 21:30.8.

Prizes were awarded to the following:-

Alan Robertson and Gordon Benton for fastest Masters E/F/G category; Elvira Drummond fastest womens single scull; Andrew Cairns fastest junior single scull.
