Berwick Flushing with pride at Murray connection

ROTARIANS at Berwick drank to the success of Andy Murray, winner of the US Open tennis tournament at Flushing Meadows.

The celebration was hosted by club member Colin Edney who is related to the Scot who became the first British man to win a Grand Slam event for 76 years, following hard on the heels of his gold medal triumph in the Olympics at Wimbledon.

Colin’s sister Shirley Erskine is Andy’s grandmother, who lived in Devon Terrace, Berwick for many years.

Shirley and Colin were successful tennis players from an early age, inheriting the talent from their parents.

On moving to Dunblane she married Roy Erskine, former Hibernian and Cowdenbeath footballer who played against Berwick Rangers on several occasions.
