Bandits washed out at Sheffield

Berwick’s away meeting against Sheffield last night (Thursday) was postponed because of the weather.

Riders and fans gathered at Owlerton for the eagerly awaited clash in the League Cup, but due to heavy rain and a waterlogged track it was decided that racing could not proceed.

For Bandits the call-off may have been a blessing in disguise, as number one rider and former Sheffield favourite Ricky Ashworth had been a major doubt after aggravating his lower back injury during the meeting against Glasgow last weekend.

Bandits now hope to regroup and prepare to face in-form Scunthorpe at Shielfield on Saturday (tapes up 7pm).

Berwick will be out gunning for revenge after losing heavily in Lincolnshire on the opening night of the season, despite a flawless 15-point maximum from Ashworth.

The meeting against the Tigers has been re-arranged for next Thursday (April 19).
