RYE HOUSE ROCKETS 56, BERWICK BANDITS 36

Berwick slumped to a 20-point defeat at Rye House on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.

The Bandits got off to a poor start at Hoddesdon, finding themselves 23-7 down after just five heats, and it was a position from which they never recovered.

Only highlights for the visitors were two wins for Kozza Smith and one apiece for Sebastian Alden and reserve Nikki Barrett.

Alden started the meeting well by winning heat one by some distance, but he was excluded by the referee for not having his dirt deflector fitted.

Smith was Berwick’s first race winner in heat six, with Barrett taking the chequered flag in eight.

Alden won in 11 with Smith taking his second victory of the afternoon in 13.

Berwick were without their other reserve, Paul Starke, who had done so well at Leicester the night before, and it was local youngster Liam Carr who was drafted in as his replacement. He scored three points from his three outings, including a second place in heat two.

The Rockets were hampered with the loss of the experienced Jason Bunyan, who withdrew from the meeting following a fall in his third race.

But the Swedish pair of Anders Mellgren and Kasper Lykke were both in fine form for the home side, being paid for seven wins between them, and with Tyson Nelson also picking up three paid victories Rye House ran out comfortable winners.
