It may be early April, but Duns Colts have their busiest weekend of the season this coming weekend with matches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
On Friday evening the Colts play Peebles Colts in the final of the Border Bowl. Duns played Peebles earlier in the competition to decide the placings in the group phase of the tournament, and then each came through their semi-finals to set up the Bowl Final. Duns defeated Hawick PSA by 26-0 a couple of weeks ago, while Peebles recorded a fine away win at Tynedale Colts.
At the time of writing, the venue for the final is still undecided. However, kick off will be at 7.30pm, so please try to make it along to wherever the match is to be staged to cheer the lads on. The Border Semi Junior League committee is still trying to source a pitch, with Gala RFC’s Netherdale the most likely contender.
Then on Saturday the Colts take part in Hawick Wanderers/PSA Sevens, the latest round of the Border Semi Junior League ‘Kings of the Sevens’ series. Duns have been drawn against Gala Wanderers in the first round of the tournament, with the tie kicking off at 2.54pm.
Finally, on Sunday a Duns Under 17 side - next season’s Colts - will play Novocastrians Under 17s at the Hardens in a friendly fixture. Novos Under 17s are in the Borders from Newcastle to attend Melrose Sevens on Saturday, and will play against Duns on their way home on Sunday.
To fit in with the visitors’ travel arrangements the match will kick off at 11.30am and the plan is to play the game at the Hardens.
So, whether you are free on Friday evening, Saturday or Sunday morning there is Colts rugby for you to watch. In particular, please try to make it along to support the Colts in their final against Peebles.
