THREE former Eyemouth players scored against their former club to extend Coldstream’s lead at the top of the First Division to 13 points.

Kieran Ainslie, Sean Simpson and John Crawford found the net to record an emphatic victory for the leaders against the team in second place.

Coldstream manager Andrew Gibson said: “I am very proud of the lads. The showed class, character, ability, fitness and pride.”

A goal either side of half-time put Coldstream in the driving seat, and they ran out comfortable winners.

The derby started off frantically, with both sides giving the ball away cheaply.

Eyemouth captain Steven Shennan, who has hit 30 goals already this season, went close for the Fishermen early on and always offered a threat with his pace, but the final ball wasn’t up to Eyemouth’s usual standards

Coldstream midfielders Josh Hebdon and Sean Simpson dominated the midfield, closing down the home side’s playmakers.

Just before half time, a fantastically-weighted Gary Wales free-kick found Kieran Ainslie, who nodded home from a tight angle to the delight of the visiting support.

The second half started with Hebdon clearing an Eyemouth effort off the line before Shennan shot wide.

Any nervousness in the Coldstream ranks was soon eased, however as Kris O’Neil spun in the area to shoot goalwards. His effort was blocked, but fell perfectly for Simpson, who hit a ferocious shot into the corner of the net to double the lead.

Lee Lambert could of made it three, but failed to get any power behind his shot and O’Neil almost then scored the goal of the game, blasting over from a tight angle.

Crawford was intent on finding the net against his hometown club and after missing a header from point-blank range he made no mistake with his next chance, scoring a header from a yard out, following a neat flick on from Kieran Ainslie, who had a fantastic match at centre-back.
