SPARTANS 4, COLDSTREAM 0
Three second half goals emphatically sent Spartans above Coldstream in the East of Scotland Premier Division table after this one, leaving the Streamers second bottom after four matches with only Heriot-Watt University between them and the basement.
The home side had the better of the play with visiting goalkeeper Mark Walters again receiving the plaudits after another magnificent performance.
The first half was dictated mostly by Spartans with Coldstream’s inability to hold onto the ball allowing the home side to mount various flowing attacks.
Spartans created several chances but missed their best when Mark Walters saved a penalty after a foul by Richard Baxendale.
Coldstream then lost skipper John Crawfiord to injury and despite another good save from Walters, the home side took the lead with a header.
Punton missed a good chance and at half-time it was still only 1-0.
The second half was barely a minute old when Spartans doubled their lead.
Half chances fell to J. Simpson and Punton at the other end, but the Ainslie Park side continued to press and got goals three and four in the final 20 minutes of the match. One lashed home from a cut back before the goal of the game was nestled in the top corner from distance.
Late on Punton was dismissed for dissent.
Coldstream: Walters, McLeod, Baxendale, Ainslie, L Cannon, J Simpson, Wales, Punton, McCrudden, Brown, Crawford (C).
