EASTHOUSES LILY 3, COLDSTREAM 4

A second half strike from Coldstream midfielder Aaron Punton in this Qualifying Cup group match settled a seven goal thriller at Newbattle Complex.

The Streamers found themselves enjoying a two goal advantage midway through the first half, but then seemed to take their foot off the gas, allowing the home side back into the match to draw level.

The visitors could not have hoped for a better start. Lee Lambert’s drilled effort spilled by the Lily keeper allowing the speedy Adam Turner to smash his shot into the bottom corner of the net. The lead was short lived though and the home side were back on level turns fives minutes later, goalkeeper Mark walters breaking a bone in his foot in the process.

Jonny Simpson then converted from the penalty spot before some poor defending saw the same player cut the ball back to Punton who passed into an open goal.

However, Gary Wales failied to clear his lines allowing Lily in for their second and with the last kick of the half the home side equalised to make it 3-3 at the break.

Walters was replaced by forward Sean Simpson in goal and he proved an able deputy, denying the home side on more than one occasion.

The winner came when a curling Lambert cross was met by an unmarked Punton, who made no mistake with his finish.
