Wooler returned to their winning ways with this hard fought victory over a team battling for promotion in the Northern Alliance First division.
After struggling to maintain a settled team recently, and although still missing influential midfielders Jamie Punton and Stu Bertram, Wooler did welcome back Frazer Tait, Dean Avery and Tom Farr after absences due to holidays and suspension.
Although the Wooler team looked stronger than in previous weeks they got off to the worst possible start conceding from a corner after two minutes, when the home centre half Scott headed home.
Wooler had to fight for possession but Gareth Pearson and Tom Farr in midfield rose to the challenge and effectively nullified their opponents. Just before half-time Wooler levelled through James Scott with a right footed strike.
In the second half Wooler played some of their best football of the season, retaining possession and effectively controlling the match. The home team only looked dangerous from set pieces with Scott always a danger, but he was effectively marked by Tait and Michael Saunders.
Wooler continued to create chances and Luke Strangeways always looked dangerous on the break combining well with James Guthrie, Connor Cowens and James Scott.
With 10 minutes to go and Wooler pressing they were awarded a corner and Tait met the cross to score with a “bullet” header to secure the points.
