Eyemouth travelled to Woodside Park to face Kelso United where ex-Eyemouth keeper Scott Dowie is now in charge.
The Fishermen were looking to put the defeat to local rivals Duns on the previous Wednesday behind them but Max Scott’s men were dealt a huge blow as early as the secondnd minute. Kelso were awarded a free kick on the left side of the Eyemouth 18yd box. A shot was hit across the goal and looked to be going wide, but Eyemouth keeper Mutch got a palm to the ball only to direct it to the edge of the six yard box where the Kelso forward Hill was allowed to run in unmarked for an easy finish.
But it was early days and United felt they could get back into game only for Benzies to lob the keeper and make it 2-0 after only eight minutes..
Both teams huffed and puffed through the rest of the first 45 but as half time approached things got even worse when a straight forward backpass by Alan Speirs sent him to the ground in agony seemingly twisting his foot on the pitch and ending his afternoon in an Eyemouth shirt.
The second half began more positive for Eyemouth and they were rewarded when Scott Adamson pulled a goal back. But it was Kelso who extended their lead when the ball fell to Bonnington, who made no mistake chipping from outside the box to make it 3-1.
