Eyemouth made the journey through the Borders to Hawick’s Albert Park hoping to keep recent form going and grab another three points.
The Fishermen made some good early running with in-form Aidan Lauder the first to test the keeper. Eyemouth passed the ball about well but the hard working Hawick closed down every attack.
A scrappy first half was coming to an end when Hawick gained a free kick just outside the box which Mutch got a hand to, but the Eyemouth defence failed to react as the ball fell into the area and Hawick’s Michael McKenzie was not caught napping, slamming the ball into the net to take them in 1-0 at half-time
Hawick applied early pressure in the second half, testing the Eyemouth defence. On 50 minutes Hawick broke down the left with Eyemouth caught on the back foot. Nick Ramsay cut in from the left, beating two players and passing the ball into Mutch’s bottom left to take them 2-0 up.
This did not wake Eyemouth up and once again Hawick attacked down the flanks, forcing a good deflected save, but Hawick’s big centre forward Michael Smith was first on hand to get an easy tap in to make it 3-0.
Hawick had a man stupidly sent off with the game more or less over for a second booking and Eyemouth with the extra man got a mere consolation goal right on full time with Alan Jess hitting into the roof of the net from inside the box.
Eyemouth: Mutch, Wylie (Buckley), Speirs, Walker, McInnes, Milligan, Jess, Wyman (Iyere), Lauder Thompson (Scott), Burrell.
